The 004 eCommerce Plattform is an integrated software solution which is the technological basis for all services of 004.

The online environment is created as a three-tier architecture and is based on the J2EE industry standard. This architecture allows scalability to the application tier and the data tier by adding more instances of application servers and database servers. Via a load balancer the incoming requests will distribute to individual server nodes.

The graphical representation of the online systems and the end-user interface will be implemented in the presentation tier of a JSP template mechanism with a central controller servlet. The structure of each page and the screen flow can be set via configuration files accordingly. This structure provides a very large design flexibility, allowing an adaptation to the respective corporate identity.

The mapping of the business logics are based on self-made frameworks, which represent a single codebase for all clients. The single components can be individually adjusted to the client's needs. That ensures the reusability of the developed logics.

The communication with the data tier is optimized by an object cache to avoid unnecessary database requests. The data is accessed through stored procedures, providing high performance SQL execution directly on the SQL server.

Asynchronous interfaces serve to replicate all required data between the back end and online environments. Through this enhanced availability complete decoupling is achieved
